BGI-25 VIRTUAL UNCONFERENCE

Presented by the SingularityNET Ambassador Program

Welcome to Unconference Day!

What is an Unconference?
An “unconference” is a free-form, participatory conference event that is shaped by its attendees. On Unconference Day, there will be in-person sessions happening at the BGI-25 venue; and the SingularityNET Ambassador Program is proud to present the Virtual Unconference, on the Zoom link below.
In each 2-hour slot, we have one pre-planned breakout room - but anyone can step up to run additional rooms on any topic they like. Just show up at the start of a slot and suggest something. Give a demo of something you’re working on; discuss a hot topic that came up during the main conference - anything you like.

You are positively encouraged to hop between rooms as you please - wherever you are is where you’re meant to be!

And if you can’t make a room that you are interested in, there will be recordings published here, and on the Ambassador Program’s Youtube

Session 1: Researching the public’s thoughts on AI ethics

Time: 09:00 - 11:00 UTC (12:00 noon - 14:00 Istanbul time)

Topic: AI ethics and safety present some of the most pressing challenges of our era. It’s more important than ever to hear those whose voices aren’t typically heard in how technology is developed and shared.

The Ambassador Program’s work on AI ethics and safety, supporting a project within BGI Nexus, directly approaches these questions with the general public, inviting them to share their hopes and concerns about the future of AI - all through a decentralized research model.

This room invites you to come and hear about DeSci, community research, how to include and hear from marginalized communities - plus, we’ll share some early findings from our interviews, primarily conducted in Nigeria.

Session 2: AI in DAO tooling

Time: 11:30 - 13:30 UTC (14:30 - 16:30 Istanbul time)

Topic: Decentralized decision-making and coordination is vital to counteract the dominance of tech giants in defining the AI global landscape. But there are still weaknesses in decentralized coordination and decision-making - especially in Web3. In this session, the Ambassador Program’s AI SandBox group presents an exploration of ideas for using AI in tooling for DAOs (Decentralised Autonomous Organisations), showing how AI can help to mitigate some of the risks and show how decentralization can flourish with the support of AI.

Session 3: AI ethics in community governance

Time: 14:00 - 16:00 UTC (17:00 - 19:00 Istanbul time)

Topic: Four workgroups from the SingularityNET Ambassador Program invite you to explore some key ethics and safety issues for grassroots, global communities when using AI tooling. How can communities use AI in more beneficial, safer, and more inclusive ways? Can we solve the challenges of the global AI landscape; and how do we tackle the more problematic elements of rapidly developing AI?

  • R&D Guild: building an AI-led framework for participatory decision-making
  • Archives Workgroup: open-source knowledge graphs and community validation of records
  • AI Think-Tank: AI agents to support grassroots community education
  • African Guild: TBC
Session 4 (title TBC)

Time: 19:00 - 21:00 UTC (22:00 - midnight Istanbul time)

Topic: El LatAm Guild del Programa de Embajadores te invita a una discusión sobre la colaboración entre IA y humanos y el impacto regional de la IA en América Latina, presente y futuro (en español).

The Ambassador Program’s LatAm Guild invites you to a discussion of AI-human collaboration, and the regional impact of AI in Latin America, present and future (in Spanish).

About the SingularityNET Ambassador Program

We are a group of people who are aligned with the mission and vision of SingularityNET, and want to contribute to supporting it. We work in a decentralised way, through a range of independent, self-organising workgroups covering everything from content-creation and marketing, to running the Program’s treasury, governance and record-keeping systems, to exploring AI ethics, education, and gaming.

A vision for a new world

BGI - or Beneficial General Intelligence - is both a movement to contribute towards beneficial AI, and a sensemaking initiative, aiming to understand people's views on:

  • What the future of AI should look like?

  • What makes AI safe and ethical?

  • How they would like to interact with AI in the future?

Soon everyone on the planet will be affected by AI in some way - whether that's directly through digital technologies, or indirectly as AI shapes global systems. We want to make sure that everyone has a voice in how this develops.

Our initiative is a living research project, gathering insights from people all over the world. Within a year, we aim to create a donation and resource distribution platform, allowing people to donate time, compute power, and currency towards beneficial AI development goals, and other projects that benefit humanity and the world we live in.
